CDCI and SME Bank Partner to Accelerate SME Digitalisation and Financial Empowerment
The two countries have discussed the proposal to set up the Malaysia-Cambodia Joint Trade Committee (JTC) to optimise trade promotion to serve as a platform to create investment opportunities and enhance economic cooperation.
According to Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said that Malaysia and Cambodia share a deep economic relationship with an increase in trade volume, investment flows and cooperation projects across various sectors.
“In 2024 alone, the trade volume grew by more than 40%, reaching US$191 million. This reflects an extraordinary growth in bilateral trade between Malaysia and Cambodia,” he said.
Previously in November 2024, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted that the Kingdom would be an exciting investment destination in ASEAN due to its political stability that makes it one of the most open and free economies in Asia.
“The royal government will continue to support the success of all guests in every way possible. Our doors are always open and we still maintain predictable principles. Our commitment to your business is unchanging.
“(We) invite all guests to be a part of Cambodia’s transformation process. Whether in the field of green energy technology, digital innovation or other ventures, Cambodia is ready to be a partner in your success,” Manet said after he was awarded with the ‘World Outstanding Leadership’ award by the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI) for his contribution to maintaining economic and political stability in the country.
“The darkest era in the history of Cambodia has ended for decades. Cambodia today has made remarkable progress in many areas, ranging from sustainable economic development, modern infrastructure and an economy that is fully integrated into regional and global markets.
“In the context of this rapid change, Cambodia’s peace and stability, strategic position in ASEAN and policies that support the facilitation of Cambodian business provide an excellent choice for all investors,” Manet continued.
He further highlighted that Cambodia offers 100% foreign ownership without any restrictions on profits and remittances, which is different from some other countries in the region.
By allowing investors to keep their profits higher, Manet pointed out that Cambodia is indeed a competitive destination for investment.
